Home Automation Defined: Home automation is basically the remote control, or automatic control of household appliances, lighting, and electrically driven equipment based on time specific or event driven criteria.
Many people still view automation systems as giving you the ability to control many different devices or aspects of your living environment from one or many locations within the home or building This is usually a byproduct of true automation systems that are integrated into the home or office systems.
At Mayent Solutions we believe that automation systems should allow you perform many tasks with minimal action on your part.
Example 1- The Getaway You plan to leave your home or office for the weekend. When you arm the alarm system with the “extended leave” pass code number, your system automatically tells the Heating and Air Conditioning systems to go into an “energy savings mode”. Your water heaters also begin to keep water less hot. When night comes lights will turn on and off in different rooms that mock your normal activities giving your home that real lived in look. On your way back into town you can grab your cell phone to call home, and with the press of a button your automation system begins to normalize the home for regular living conditions.
Example 2 - Deep Freeze If your area gets hit with a severe winter storm while you are out, and your home loses power, pipes can quickly freeze and rupture inside the home. When the power is restored, the home heats up and water begins to flow as the pipes thaw. Under normal conditions, hundreds of gallons of water would be pumped into the home until the well runs dry, and the well pump burns out.
With an integrated home system the water leakage would be detected, the well pump shut off and someone notified of the condition, minimizing the water damage and saving your well pump system.
Or better yet the integrated system would detect the freezing condition inside the home, shut off the water supply into the premise and open a drain valve which would evacuate the water lines and prevent pipe breakage altogether.
Example 3- Good Day You are awakened in the morning to your favorite music softly playing, and the lights in your bedroom begin to softly glow gently brightening to a “full on” condition over a 15-minute period. As you arise and begin making your way to the freshly brewed pot of coffee in the kitchen, lights begin to turn on automatically illuminating your path.
As you step from the shower, you notice the sun coming through the window warming the inside of your home because the thermal blinds that save your heat energy at night, were automatically opened at sunrise on the eastern side of your home. As you leave for work the coffee pot turns off, the music stops, lights turn off, and your alarm system arms itself.
About an hour before returning from work, your home begins to heat up to a more comfortable level, the water heater turns up the heat, music begins to play, and certain lights turn on as needed
You are welcomed home by the smell of the dinner that has begun cooking in the slow cooker while you were at work.
As you retire for the evening, the lights automatically turn off all inside the home and the outside motion sensing lights turn on at a low level, warm glow. The garage door that you left open when you came home, automatically closes. Your alarm system arms itself just in case you forget, and the telephone ringers are set to turn off.
It’s been a good day...
